20th June 1922.

Sir,

In reply to your letter of the 12th April last, (0.11443/1922) regarding the suspension of compensation allowances payable in respect of service in the Royal Irish Constabulary to persons now serving in the Palestine Gendarmerie, I am directed by the Chief Secretary to express regret that by inadvertence your letter in question was put up without a reply having been sent thereto.

The decision of the Treasury regarding the suspension of the compensation allowances in question is that disburied members of the Royal Irish Constabulary serving in the Palestine Gendarmerie may receive such part of their compensation allowances as, together with the pay received by them in the Palestine Gendarmerie, will make up an amount equal to the actual rate of pay which they were receiving at the date of the termination of their service in the Royal Irish Constabulary, so far as that rate of pay was in respect of their substantive rank in the Royal Irish Constabulary, or in respect of a higher temporary pensionable rank.

IRISH OFFICE,

55 OLD QUEEN STREET.
